In recent times, Hannum School was without a student written newspaper until this year. The Grizz Gazette, which club members voted to name the newspaper, was started by students who needed a staff member to sponsor their club. Fourth grade students, Alison Wainwright and Bridget O'Shea approached Miss Koppers (Literacy Teacher) to ask if she would consider being the newspaper staff sponsor. Miss Koppers agreed and also recruited new fifth grade teacher, Erin Moore. With sponsors in place, flyers went out to 4/5 grade students. Approximately 12 students decided to join the year-long club that meets three times a week. The club's goal is to distribute a weekly issue of the newspaper to everyone in the school-staff and all students. The club members are divided into four groups that each have a distinct role: interviewer, writer, photographer, and mini-editors. With the help of Miss Koppers and Miss Moore, the newspaper club writes about relevant news/events that are happening at Hannum School. Each issue of the Grizz Gazette inlcudes two articles. When asked why she agreed to sponsoring this new club, Miss Koppers replied, "I love to see how creative and passionate students are." Thanks to all of the club members and sponsors for a newspaper that the whole Hannum Community can be proud of.
