Mr. Lazaratto and Mr. Fanjoy have been dedicated to enhancing the educational experiences of the students at Hannum School. Approximately a year and a half ago, they reached out to a Canada-based company called Floor Kurl, proposing a a case study in exchange for free curling equipment. The company agreed, and the case study was offically submitted late fall of the previous year.
Then, last spring, Mr. Lazzarotto and Mr. Fanjoy submitted a grant to the Ed Foundation to help fund a garden where we would create and freeze rinks for curling in the winter months. After careful consideration, they decided that using synthetic ice would allow them to have year round rinks to better utilize the area.
This year, Hannum students will have the opportunity to particpate in a Healthy and Active Kids Lunch and Recess Club. In this program, they will utilize indoor hdroponic gardening systems to initiate the gardening progcess, latter transferring the plants to the new garden beds situated beneath the curling boards. After enjoying their lunch and tending to the garden, students will have the remainder of their time to engage in curling matches, featuring both Olympic-style and shufflebaord-style games.
