School Resource Officer, Craig Zelhart visits Hannum students.
Last Friday, school resource office (SRO) Craig Zelhart, visited Hannum School. Officer Craig is a resource officer for all of D123 schools but has his office at OLHMS. His purpose is an educational one, not as someone who assigns discipline. In his presentation to students, he introduced himself as a father of five children. Officer Craig lives on a farm with many types of animals such as cows, chickens, pigs, and geese. He tallked to students about school safety, phone safety, and safe conversations. His goal is to get to know students and their families and be there for anything they may need. Students were especially interested in the gear that Officer Craig wears. He explained what he wears on his belt-handcuffs, pistol, magazines, walkie talkie and a radio for dispatch. Officer Craig patiently took many questions from students who were very interested in getting to know him. It was a great first meeting for our Hannum students and we look forward to more interactions like this with Officer Craig.
