On the heels of concluding the first round of fall conferences at Hannum School, it is important to utilize the information that was heard and to set your child up for success. Here is a quick list of powerful things parents can do to keep the positive momentum going for our students:
- Create a smooth take off each day. Encourage children to do their best both in their school work and with their Bear Behaviors. Being at school each day is extremely important.
- Talk to your child about school. Ask them to talk about their day without distractions such as being on the phone or watching TV.
- Have a set time to complete homework. Almost each grade level has homework. It may be a worksheet, reading 20 minutes a night, working on flash cards, or going on IXL. These activities are meant to build a solid foundation in a child's education that is specific to them. Show them you value these tasks by following through and completing them. Check Skyward to make sure your child is staying on top of their assignments.
- Be consistent with routines at home. Students should have plenty of rest each night. Limit screen time and make sure technology is pulled away at bedtime.
- Stay engaged with your child's teacher and the school community. Newsletters, Twitter (@D123Hannum), Remind messages, and PTA events, Tuesday Take Home folders and meetings are great ways to keep up with what is happening.
Let's keep the school year moving in the right direction as parents and teachers partner together for a successful experience for all.
