At Hannum Elementary, we don't only build community in the classroom, but we build community throughout the entire school. Our PBIS team has buddied classrooms together for our trimester celebrations. Kindergarten buddies with third grade, first grade buddies with fourth grade, and second grade buddies with fifth grade. For our second trimester celebration, we were inspired by World Read Aloud Day and had the kids make scratch art bookmarks with their buddies. When they finished, students either worked on an activity with their buddy or the older students read to the younger students. The kids were so excited about the celebration. All morning, teachers were hearing "How much longer until we see our buddies?" It is evident that the older kids love taking on these leadership roles and the younger kids look up to their buddies. This is the perfect way to build our school community.
