The first grade hall was alive with excitement the day before winter break because the students had their annual "Polar Express Day." The excitement began as students and teachers showed up to school in their pajamas. As students got ready for the day, they opened their desk to find a special surprise; it was a bell! The bell is symbolic because the story states that only true believers hear the bell. The students were so excited, they walked through the halls jingling their bells and showing off their pajamas. They were greeted at their classroom doors by a special conductor. Dr. Enderle punched their tickets! Students did many themed activities that day including a Polar Express themed math game and a sequencing activity after reading the story. They ended their day by watching the movie and enjoying a nice cup of hot cocoa. First graders had a magical day and they left for winter break believing in the spirit of the season.
