The day before winter break is always an eventful day at Hannum, but for the first graders, it was a day they will never forget. Students and teachers came to school in their pajamas for "Polar Express Day." As students entered their classrooms, they were suprised to find a bell in their desks. The bells are symbolic because the story states that those who hear the bells are believers. The excitement didn't stop there! Special conductor, Dr. Enderle, surprised the students when he greeted them at them at their classrooms and punched their train tickets! Students then read The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg and watched the movie. They spent the rest of the day comparing and contrasting the book and the movie. It was a magical day that filled the students with holiday spirit and reminded them to keep believing!
