Hannum School turned into a campsite Thursday, November 4th. Families joined us for our first literacy/music night. The school gym was turned into a campsite where families gathered around to sing camp songs, used fly swatters; not for mosquitos, but to swat their sight words, fished for vocabulary words, and read music to practice rhythms and patterns in music. Finally, they read directions to make fun, puppet animals that you might see in the wilderness.
Families were able to visit any and all stations and when they finished, they were rewarded with camping dogtags and bookmarks! Here's another cool thing, kids will get different dogtags at our different academic nights to start their own collection.
This was another opportunity for our families, students, and staff to engage together in the excitement in reading for enjoyment and increasing literacy awareness where you may not think to look for it.
