5th Grade students in Covington’s Pawsitive Leaders Club filled up Covington’s Little Lending Library last week. The Little Free Library is a worldwide network of over 50,000 free “give a book, take a book” libraries. Covington’s Little Free Library is located in the newly constructed Garcia’s Garden, right outside of one of our playgrounds. 5th Grade Pawsitive Leaders Club hand picked 25 of their favorite books for all ages that were donated to Covington.
“The Little Free Library is a great way to encourage reading at home, and the best part is that it is free,” said Ms. Taylor.
To take advantage of the unseasonably warm weather and to encourage reading at the school Mrs. Sharko took her classroom outside to enjoy the day and read aloud to each other.
“The Garden provides an engaging setting that is different from the classroom. Reading our story outside was a great way to take advantage of the warm November weather,” said Mrs. Sharko.
Garcia’s Garden was a collaborative effort between students, teachers and staff at Covington who wanted to leave a gift for generations of students to come. The garden is named after Armando Garcia, who worked at the school and was part of the Covington family. Unfortunately Garcia lost his battle with cancer last year.
