It was a busy weekend for OLHMS Boys and Girls bowling, the teams took part in the IESA State Tournament! The Boys’ Team took Third Place overall with a 7232 pin count over 10 games. Danny LaBonte took All-State honors by placing 6th individually with 2030 pins, a 203 average. Danny also tied a state record for High Game by shooting a 279 just one strike short of a perfect game. Congratulations to the boys’ team, Trevor Coffman (1826 pins/18th place), Blake Attig (1807 pins/21st place), Matthew Smith (1569 pins/61st place) and Logan Wendt.
This is the second year in a row that the OLHMS Boys Bowling Team placed in the Top 3 at the State Tournament!
The Girls’ Team was lead by Emily Dolan who qualified for the second day of tournament play. This was the first time in OLHMS Girls’ Bowling Team history that a girl qualified for Saturday! Dolan shot 1160 pins over the 10 games and took 60th place overall. Caitlyn Sierzega, Cheyene Strang, Kelly Gordon, and Audrey March rounded out the girl’s team.
The Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA) began in 1929 and today has a membership of 959 schools throughout Illinois and conducts 10 sports and 5 activity state series competitions throughout the year. This year, 57 schools from across the state competed in the State Bowling Tournament. This is the 4th year that OLHMS has competed in this statewide tournament and has earned two state trophies, six team/individual scoring medals, and two state records in such a short time. The OLHMS Bowling Intramural Program and Bowling Teams are coached by OLHMS teachers, Ms. Julie DeRuiter and Miss Colleen Finnander.
