The Assistant Principal and recent 5th-grade teacher from District 122 will be the new Principal at Covington Elementary School.
At their most recent meeting, the Oak Lawn-Hometown District 123 Board of Education approved John Wawczak to the position effective July 1. He will replace Kelly Zimmerman as principal of Covington.
Wawczak has served as the Assistant Principal and a Grade 5 classroom teacher at Columbus Manor Elementary School in Ridgeland School District 122 in Oak Lawn for the past two school years. Prior to that, he served as a middle school teacher at Lincoln Middle School in Berwyn School District 98 for the first six years of his teaching career.
“I am honored and excited to be given the opportunity to be part of the Covington Elementary School and Oak Law-Hometown District community. I have heard so many wonderful things about the district and I look forward to working with the students, staff and families of Covington Elementary School to create a vibrant learning community that focuses on learning and celebrating successes of all students,” said Wawczak.
He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Chicago, a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from National-Louis University, and an Administrative degree from Concordia University.
