Earlier this week, 1st-grade students worked as engineers in designing their own kites. Using what they recently learned about wind in their weather unit, students developed style ideas and built their kites. Some even had the clever idea to use the classroom uni-vent to simulate wind and test their kite out.
“Students were extremely reflective when discussing the successes and challenges of their kite flying experience. It was amazing to see them apply what they’ve learned in science to this project,” said 1st-grade teacher, Theresa Weber.
The kite project utilized a variety of skills the students learned throughout their year, from the weather to math and science. Following their design, students had the opportunity to test their design skill.
