This was Covington Elementary School’s first year hosting Girls-on-the-Run Club. GOTR meets twice a week with third through fifth grade girls. Students work on becoming well-rounded individuals. They have mini-lessons on social and emotional issues, plus they remain physically active through exercise and running.
As part of their community service project at Covington Elementary, the GOTR organized a week-long pet drive to benefit the local Animal Welfare League on Southwest Highway. The girls collaborated with their teammates to decide on a topic that they cared about and what they could do to help. Among the items that were donated to the shelter included blankets, cat and dog food, leashes, toys, and treats for the animals.
The club will have a year-end celebration by participating in a 5K on June 4th in Grant Park.
Good Luck girls! A special thanks goes to our volunteer coaches (teachers) Ms. Issa, Ms. Saucedo and Ms. Fisler.
