Welcome Back to School!
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year, the 117th in School District 123. I hope you have each experienced a relaxing and enjoyable summer among family and friends. I’m excited about the upcoming school year and the opportunity it brings to again partner together with students and families in the Oak Lawn-Hometown community.
As I reflect upon District 123 and the work we do together there is always one common truth that is consistently apparent within our culture — people matter. This truth comes from the many stories within our classrooms, friendly daily interactions, and conversations about our schools; its simple, the best staff, students, and families in the world learn together here in D123 each day. This past year, the Board of Education and I set out to encapsulate the hopes and dreams of our entire learning community through our strategic plan development process. We were fortunate to engage hundreds of faculty, staff, students, and community members in focus groups, surveys, workshops, and community events. Together, we developed a long-range plan for the future and are excited to move forward with renewed focus and direction.
This year our concentration will follow the mission and vision of the new strategic plan and be set around the following four (4) goals:
- Whole Child Success: Building foundational mastery, supportive schools, and high expectations
- Active Learning: Growing engaged problem solvers and empowered creators
- Operational Excellence: Maintaining a thriving workforce, optimal facilities, and fiscal responsibility
- Community Spirit: Looking outward, adding value, and building trust.
These goals will serve to develop clarity of purpose and a positive direction for School District 123 now, and over the next five (5) years. As a high performing and supportive school district, we are both optimistic and confident that each of these cornerstones will contribute to activating our new mission of Preparing Today’s Leaner for Tomorrow’s World. Take a moment to view our video outlining ourStrategic Planning Process.
We are proud that you are each a part of School District 123, and will continue to strive each day toward our current vision of becoming a dynamic and supportive environment that ignites lifelong learners who embrace diversity and contribute positively to our community and global society. All of our schools maintain an open door philosophy, so please stay connected. I wish everyone a wonderful school year!
