D123 & OLHMS Honor Veterans in Annual Ceremony

Oak Lawn Hometown Middle School will be honoring our local men and women that served in the United States armed forces through its annual Veterans Day Assembly.  The event will be held in the gymnasium of OLHMS on Thursday, November 10th from 8:45am – 9:30am.

The Veterans Day Assembly began five years ago as an opportunity for middle school students to demonstrate appreciation and thank our local veterans for their commitment to our country.  Veterans are honored at the event through speeches written by students, performances by the chorus and band, as well as inspirational words from our local veterans.  As in the past, the social studies classes at OLHMS will be extending this learning experience into their classrooms.

The assembly is truly a community building experience for the middle school and District 123.  Students and teachers work collaboratively to create an event that is memorable for our veterans each year.  Oak Lawn – Hometown Middle School would like to extend an invitation to local community members, veterans, and families to attend this event.  If you would like to attend this event please contact Brian Jurinek via email at bjurinek@d123.org or phone at (708) 499-6400 by Thursday, November 3, 2016.
