When Andrea and Rawda, two 7th Grade Students at OLHMS, realized they couldn’t attend this year’s World Vision 6k for Water they still wanted to help. Not having any money of their own to donate, the two came up with a plan to host a bake sale.
“We both like to bake so we decided to make cupcakes and sell them at my brother’s soccer practice. We were able to raise $30 in two days and donated it,” said Andrea.
The World Vision Organization works to put on the 6k events partnering with schools and other organizations. Funds raised then go to build reservoirs to provide clean drinking water to the countries that need it most. When the girls’ learned about the living situations in certain parts of Africa they were moved to help.
“They don’t have the best places to live and sometimes the water is so dirty they get sick. And they have to travel so far just to get this water. We wanted to do something and are glad this helped,” said Rawda.
Nearly 250 people participated in this year’s race!
