7th grade students at OLHMS got quite the thrill when Dan Poblocki, a thriller and horror author, visited the school on September 19. Poblocki shared his experiences as an author to inspire the students in their own work.
“I was surprised to hear that Mr. Poblocki is so interested in ghosts before he started writing his books. This is what made him become an author of scary ghost stories,” 7th grade student, Madyson said.
Not only do you need to have an interesting topic when writing a story, but Poblocki stressed the importance of proofreading as well, something 7th Grade Teacher, Mrs. Stavrou appreciated. “This is something that all teachers try to reinforce for students. All written work should be proofread and revised before submitting” she said.
The author shared with students the secrets to his success.
“Mr. Poblocki used past experiences to help create his career. It is showing us that using past experiences and following your dreams can help you achieve all your goals,” Jackie T. and Victoria P. shared.
Dan Poblocki is a Young Adult Author and has written Shadow House, The Mysterious Four, and The House on Stone’s Throw Island. His work has been recognized by the Young Adult Library Services Association and the Junior Library Guild.
